Teaching Portfolio

“Tell me and I forget.  Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.”
                             -Benjamin Franklin

I am an energetic, determined person that is excited about education, as well as pursuing my own artistic goals. I have a Master's of Arts in Teaching (MAT) and, a BFA from Missouri State University. I am K-12 certified to teach ar and. I have had an amazing experience teaching at Van Horn High School in Independence, MO for the past year.

Through my BFA I have a well rounded background in the arts, including 60 studio hours in: photography, ceramics, drawing, printmaking, fibers, metals, sculpture and graphic arts. I also have a minor in art history. I worked as a graphic designer for MSU-Computer Services, and a subsitute teacher to gain experience in the classroom. All of these experiences have given me the opportunity to grow as an educator and artist.

Please take a look at my education, and artwork sections located at the top of the page, my resume and photography website are located on the left side of the page.

Education Philosophy

I believe education is about asking questions and seeking answers, experimenting and discovering. In the art room students experience different cultures and ways of thinking, they are taught to question and seek answers, fine motor skills are exercised and improved, and many life skills are learned.  I would like my students to learn the skills and thinking that is needed to create art, not to just learn about art, but to learn to think like an artist, and in doing so, learn to succeed for themselves and in their communities.
